Nasamat is the result of close to 7 years of research, design, application and revision. Originally printed in an extremely limited draft run as Odes of Light by Nur al-Habib, the text served as a reference booklet for Nur al-Habib nashid group serving Melbourne’s Muslim community in gatherings of Mawlid an-Nabi, Qasidatu ‘l-Burdah, wedding celebrations and interfaith dialogue. The group struggled with accessing the rich tradition of inshad, and aimed to present it with beauty, simplicity and depth.
Being far removed from the grand libraries of al-Azhar, Damascus, Tarim, Cairo and Istanbul laden with collections of inshad and qasa’id, the work began to unearth archived manuscripts of diwans, learn in the company and gatherings of seasoned munshidin, with the goal of producing a high-quality collection which would enable lovers of all walks of life to carry with them treasures of poetic devotion.
Following years of field-testing the inshad, burning the midnight oil reflecting on service of the madih tradition and seeking the guidance of scholars and mentors, the collection was renamed and refined —
Songs in Nearing Arrival
unto love of Allah & love of the Messenger ﷺ
carrying souls unto the spiritual realm.
Nasamat fi Taqrib al-Wusul,
ila hubb Illah wa hubbi Rasul,
wa hiya hamala ‘l-arwah ila awalim al-ruh.
We ask Allah that the poor efforts placed in this work are granted acceptance, and may it be a service to those seeking to praise the Rasul ﷺ.
